I saw the question go by as I was catching up on reading the digest as I
installed 4.0, but no answer so I ask again.
Clean install P-100 64 Mb RAM, / and swap on IDE drive hda, /usr on /sdb1.
The boot floppy that came with the "offical" redhat appeared to work
perfectly as everything appeared to go fine until the last step of
installing lilo, at which point I get a useless "some kind of error
occured" message and I'm dead. Hitting F12 reboots which locks up at LI
if I remove the floppy and try to boot. Interrupting the floppy boot and
trying: linux root=/dev/hda1 gets an fsck error and leaves me with a
readonly filesystem so I can't fix or mount anything.
Ideas? This doesn't sound like the trouble addressed by the already
available 2940 boot image replacements as my controller was found and all
devices probed correctly. The drive's LED sure made it look like the
install was writing /usr to the sdb1.
How the hell can I get this far and then fail to write lilo to the IDE drive
MBR?
