Hey guys,
A ftp install story.
I am not complaining merely providing information
on what happened in the hopes that it will help.

pentium 100, ide, no scsi, 3c509 ether nothing strange.

I tried the ftp install with the original 4.0 install images.
The first time I tried it failed on lilo, the second time
I told it only WWW stuff and it worked. Later I wanted to
recompile the kernel, unfortunately (sp) no source and no compiler.
I then downloaded the source and compiler rpms and installed with
rpm -i but the compiler couldn't find the include files. I believe
I had made all the correct links, but maybe not. Anyway I waited a
little while for some of the ftp install problems to be taken care
of. I recently downloaded the newer install images (i hope) and tried
again. This time it gets to where its downloading the comps packages
and then starts giving errors like this:

package setup at line 4 dne
I hit return and then
package pamconfig at line 5 dne
I hit return
package filesystem at line 6 dne (what is dne?)
I turn off power.

I tried a mirror first and then redhat no luck.

Which images should I get for my next try?
I really like the idea behind the ftp install. The
mirror I have been using is located here in indiana
but I found that redhats ftp site was faster. The
new lines are working good!!

Thanks,

Jim Sweeten
