I have had success with Western Digital. Seagate/Quantum/Conner drives
have been problems for me. As another responder pointed out, they
generate
a bunch of heat. Someone else (I don't think it was this newsgroup)
reported
dead drive. Also, I've had four drives (so far) out of twelve of those
Seagates die on my clients. These were in 'hot-swap' configurations
where
the (half-height or 1.5" tall) drives are installed in a cartridge unit
that slides into a 5 1/4" docking bay. The drives were RAID'd, which is
the
reason for the hot-swap setup, and the cartridge unit may have played a
role
with overheating. Another theory I have is that vertical pressure on the
spindle caused the death. This theory is confirmed in one instance.

As another anecdote, I had a machine with a Conner drive and a WD drive
in it
fall with a clang (not while running) to the floor. Both drives were in
their
first couple months of service. The Conner died immediately, while the
WD is
still running beautifully. These were IDE 1" drives, so the
heating/spindle
pressure issues aren't applicable.

Your milage may vary.

Randy
