if you mean normal vi inside of an xterm, you need to add a line to your
.Xdefaults file like:

xterm*Font:     6x13

Except you probably want something bigger. 

If you're talking about gvim, you need to add a line to .gvimrc like:

set guifont=-misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-iso8859-1

Except pick whatever font you like (use xfontsel to do that).
