    first try
rdev <filename> to determin current setting filename is the name
of the new kernel. If it doesn't match your root partition then
    type rdev <filename> devicename
for example in my case it is:
rdev vmlinuz /dev/hda4 it should set all right.
If you didn't make bootdisk and can not start your system at all
try type in LILO prompt: linux name_of_old_kernel
(somebody correct me here if I am wrong !!!) if old kernel is not in / you
should specify full file name. It will make LILO to boot old kernel.
