# And my system name does appear in the /etc/hosts file. The file
# looks like
# this:
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# 192.168.0.1 cosmo
You need to make sure that the exact same name that is listed in
/etc/sysconfig/network for the "hostname" is listed in /etc/hosts.
Here's a few lines from my /etc/hosts file:
# Reference: Olaf Kirch, Linux Network Administrator's Guide
# see pp. 62ff.
#
# IP FQDN aliases
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
and my hostname in /etc/sysconfig/network is "localhost.localdomain"
(minus the quotes).
