BTW, the ext2fs limit to the size of a filesystem is 1 TB (2^31 512
byte sectors).

It is 2 GB on 32-bit systems.  With recent kernels on 64-bit systems,
the maximum is quite a bit larger; not 2^64 but significantly larger.
