Add the /usr/local/bin to your path in the profile file under /etc. And
you can set the permissions so you can use ppp as a normal user. You can
also set up fstab to allow std users to access the floppy, cdrom, zip
drive, or any file system you want.
As for living in Root all the time, it's a bad habit to get into. Just
make the above changes and su to root as needed. Which shouldn't be that
often with the above changes made.
I only su to root to do a 'make install', use rpm, and to mount the
occasional vfat floppy.
