SCSI network drivers (....blue sky idea)

This is a little off-the-wall, but then someone out there might have had the 
same idea.

Would it be possible to connect two SCSI controllers to a single cable and 
use them to provide a network connection? I currently have two servers with 
a dedicated 100MHz network between them, but SCSI would be rather faster 
(both have a spare[ish] backup UW controller.

Please cc to my address as I have trouble keeping up with the list nowadays. 
I knew there had to be *some* problem with Linux going mainstream ;-)
