smbclient and missing codepage

I am trying to start smbclient, but it does not start, and in the log
(/var/log/samba-log.smb) there is an error message: "filename
/etc/codepages/codepage.850 does not exist".
It does not exist, not even directory /etc/codepages
Am I missing a module? If I am how can I know what module(s)?
