We use tar to backup multiple Unix boxes using the non rewinding device. When
restoring file we previously used the command "mt -f /dev/nst0 fsf n" to skip
n archives forward on the tape.
Since installing 5.2 I have found that mt no longer does anything when given
the fsf (or fss) option, it just remains at the beginning of the tape. Using
the mt binary from 5.0 with the same options does what it did previously and
fast forwards through the tape.
Has anyone else seen this behaviour? The box in question has an AH2940 with
three HP DAT 24i's.
Regards,
Mark.
