gibberish characters in Netscape

When making entries in Netscape (4.05 rpm) via a form or by filling in a URL to
browse, etc., I keep getting gibberish characters in with the stuff I'm typing in.
I also get a subprocess diagnostics error message (stdout & stdin). Any ideas?
