Hello.
I have problems to restore my Linux root file system. I tried to get help
from the redhat archives but had the following message
'archive.redhat.com:8501: Connection refused'
I am new linux to Linux administration but have experience with Solaris
and DECUNIX. I have to install a Linux server in my Lab and want
to be sure I can easily restore a crashed system. I destroyed my system
with fdisk and now is unable to restore it.
The problem I have on my linux RH5.1 is the following:
I have to restore the root file system from a DLT2000 tape. The file
system was saved on the DLT tape by 'dump 0ubBf 32 20000000 /dev/nst0 /' .
I am able to boot in rescue mode but I am unable to access the tape.
I tried 'mknod -m 660 /dev/st0 c 9 0' but when I use 'restore xf /dev/st0'
I have the message 'st0: Operation not supported by device'.
My questions:
1) After repartitioning the system disk from rescue mode, what is the
procedure to restore the file system from a tape ? Is it possible when in
rescue mode ? I there an other mode ?
2) Let's suppose the root partition is restored in a newly partionned disk.
How to make the partition a boot partition ?
I really need help.
Christophe.
