While I agree with you concerning KDE - I ended up using XFCE - I thought
it a good desktop to have as a standard when welcoming new users to a Red
Hat distribution. It looks like the other one, which is sadly seen as the
standard. Unfortunately, it doesn't only look like the other one, it also
takes ages before it loads, it uses memory like it's for free and what
bothered me the most is KDE's "political" decision to call it ver 1.0
instead of Beta 5.
Having said this, I must admit also that it is pretty stable for a Beta
version (but unstable and unfinished for a ver 1.0) and the user who likes
GUI interfaces will be at ease.
Anyway, the punch line is that I would prefer KDE to the fvwm desktop as a
standard. Once installed and going the new comer can look around and get
the desktop he prefers.
