The poor much maligned floppy. It really does not suck. I have recently
fallen in love with the boot floppy. I have a new dual ppro box that I
have been compiling kernels on for some other machines, and with the use of
rdev, can make a nice custom boot floppy for most any box in my network. I
have even taken to carrying around a set of boot floppies for different
kernal configurations (with firewall, without, with 3com, with Intel, new
kernel, old kernel, patched kernel, etc). Since I only use either 3com or
Intel nics, this has been a real easy way to compile on a fast box (will do
a kernal in under 3+- minutes depending on the crap you select). So learn
to love your floppy. Just think. You whole multi user network aware OS is
on that one little disk. It is cool.
