Hey folks!

I've found the SMB-HOWTO to be woefully inadequate at actually describing
how to get things working. Can anyone help me? All I want is to be able
to read/write a drive on my linux box from my Windows98 box. The HOWTO
doesn't make a single mention of what has to be done on the Windows side to
make this possible. Also, the sample smb.conf files are somewhat vague.
This shouldn't be so difficult! smbd and nmbd are already running on my
linux machine. I assume the workgroup name in the smb.conf and on my win98
machines need to match, which they now do. Other than that, I don't know
what to do on either side - I made an entry in the smb.conf for a public
drive (/tmp for now just to see if i can see it). So, the smb.conf is
publishing a public drive, the workgroup names match up, and yet, still
nothing. Can anyone help?

Some notes on current status: On Win98, in my Network Neighborhood, I can
see
my local machine, and the Entire Network icon. Clicking the Entire Network
icon shows only my local machine. So it's just as if the linux box is
invisible
on the network.

THANKS!

-Fran
