If it's really FAT16 formatted then Linux can't read it because it's expecting
ISO9660 format.  Maybe you could put another entry for your CD-ROM in
/etc/fstab e.g.

/dev/cdrom	/mnt/fatcd	vfat 	(and all the other things)

and that _might_ work.
