Just run X, then netcfg and fill in the blanks for a new PPP interface.

Enable PAP as just about every ISP needs it.
PAP name = ISP login name
PAP secret = ISP login password

Type /sbin/ifup ppp0 to start the connection
Type /sbin/ifdown ppp0 to stop it

If you can dial the modem using minicom,
you are fortunate that you do not have a Winmodem.

Winmodem = works only with Windows
