Marc,
Typing perl -c programname.cgi allows you to test the script for
errors without actually running it. And as someone who pays the bills
writting Perl scripts, I use it extensively and highly recomend it as a
great debugging tool.
Perl books...
Perl 5 by Example (Published by QUE and authored by David
Medinets) covers things quite well. And, as the title indicates, has
plenty of examples that should help get you going. Some of his code won't
run, but what da ya expect for fourty-bucks?
