I am using RH Linux v5.1 with a 3 button, Microsoft compatible serial
mouse installed on cua0. The only way I can get the mouse to work
decently in X windows (using the Afterstep window manager) is to use
"gpm". At boot time, I issue the command: "gpm -3 -t pnp -B 132 -R". In
XF86Config, I have the following:

    Protocol "MouseSystems"
    Device "/dev/gpmdata"
    Buttons 3

With this setup, the first button copies and the third button pastes and
moves the scroll bars on my xterm/nxterm
smoothly; the middle button is inactive. If instead I invoke the
command: "gpm -3 -t ms -B 123 -R", all three buttons
become active and work like you would expect in a typical X setup (the
first button copies, the middle button pastes,
the third button extends the copy). The problem I have in this setup is
that the xterm/nxterm scroll bars do not work
properly with any button. At best the scroll bars jump incrementally as
opposed to moving smoothly.

I am stumped by this and would greatly appreciate any insight.

Thanx,
-S.
