I'm running LPRng 3.4.2-1, and I'm having a problem implementing the ld and
tr flags in my printcap.
I'm under the assumption that these flags are used to specify
"encapsulation" codes for print jobs sent to the defined printer. i.e. the
'ld' data is appended to the beginning of each print job, and the 'tr' data
is appended to the end. If I'm wrong in this assumption, please correct me
now, before I pull out any more of my hair.
I'm attempting to encapsulate my print jobs for certain printers with
various PCL command escape sequences to set paper size, font pitch, LPI, and
to convert LF to CR+LF to fix stair-stepping text. And at the end of each
print job I want to send a reset command, because the server in question
isn't the only server printing to said printer.
My problem is that the ld and tr data does no seem to be being attached to
the jobs. If they are, they're having no effect whatsoever.
What 'format' should the data for the ld and tr entries be in? If someone
is successfully using these entries, could you send me a "snippet" of the
printcap demonstrating actual implementation? I currently have three
networked copiers and a LaserJet that are completely useless as network
printers for this server until I get this encapsulation problem fixed.
Thanks.
