Yeah, that was just me being sloppy as I recounted it to the list. My dns 
has been correctly set up from the beginning (ie "mydomain.com.  IN  MX  
10 serverA.mydomain.com.">. DNS is not the problem.

Yes - that's the way it's supposed to work.

Who said I was trying to assign "some users to serverA and some to 
serverB"? Not me. Did I somehow infer that? I know there have been 
several list users who've responded with that same thought.
