Assuming that Lotus do not use a GPL compiler or GPL libraries, there is no
requirement at all for them to release either the source or distribute a
free version.
There is no problem at all with distributing a program that uses GPL bits so
long
as those GPL bits aren't distributed with the program. If that were the
case, SCO
programs running on Linux under icbs would be in breach.

You still don't have to buy it if you don't want to.

Or worse yet (or better depending on your point of view), the
said company could find its code modified and used elsewhere and
not be able to sue the 'perpetrators' (Freedom fighters depending
on your point of view again).
