Well, I have been watching this thread (long thread of one post :-) and
since nobody has jumped in, I thought I would tell you what I would try if
I was in your boots.
1. Upgrade to the latest stable kernel (RH errata indicates that for you
that is 3.0.35)
2. Upgrade to the lates SMB (New RPM for samba posted on 11-17 for the 5.1
dist.)
Put the Samba box in a different workgroup than any of the NT boxes (don't
ask, it just helps a little from my exp with samba)
Review the logs for clues as to why it is stopping.
Try a different network card (intel ehterexpress pro is the way to go IMHO)
Try out different security settings (user, share).
If you are using user now, try share and see if it still balks.
MS Access wants to create a tmp file and do some writting. Do all the
users have write access to the dir? Has the database been setup for
multi-user access?
In place of network start/stop, try an ./ifdown ethX and and ./ifup ethX
where is your interface and you are in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/.
Like I said, these are just some things I would try if I was at your shop.
They may not work, but they may be a place to start.
Write back if any of this helps or gives new information.
