I think it depends on the version of KDE you're using. Some releases of
KMail were buggier than others (one of the betas caused me nothing but,
problems).

You can get XCMail, XFMail, TkRat, learn to use elm or pine or whatever
you'd like. You aren't required to keep using all of the NS bloat or
simple text-based programs unless you decide to. This is Linux, not
That Other (so-called) OS (tm) that doesn't give you any choices.
