I understand your reluctance to pay the 20 bucks . . . <g> but they are not 
really asking you to test the product.  They don't want any bug reports, 
which are a PITA, I assure you.  This is simply high-powered marketing 
at its best (worst?).  They're going to lean on the numbers 2-0-0-0 as 
heavily as they can, and try to get as many people as possible wedded 
to the product before it's even officially released.  It's a smart idea, 
actually.  When there is significant lag time between version releases, 
there's always a chance for penguins or who knows what to slip in and 
grab some market share.  But by eliminating lag time completely by 
selling the next release's beta immediately, it's easier to retain market 
share.  Gives the unwashed the feeling that they're actually part of the 
team, if you know what I mean.  It also, and this is the *real* key, gives 
developers a good reason to stay right where they are.  (Keeps 'em 
busy and off the streets, anyway.)  :))
