As much as I like KDE (I've used it for a year now) I don't think we need a
"standard desktop for linux".   The real beauty of Linux is that you can
configure your system the way you want it.  More power to gnome and all the
window managers out there.  I'll continue to use KDE until, if and when, gnome
catches up.
