I had all the latest RPM's installed.. EXCEPT for the latest syslogk rpm...
(I'm running RH5.2).. Can someone tell me if the buffer overflow problem in
syslog would have amounted to anything?

This looks like the buffer overflow exploit in NFS server.  Check out CERT
for more details,

http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-98.12.mountd.html and make sure you have
the latest RPMs from RedHat installed.  Then you need to go through your
system and assess what damage a hacker might have caused...
