I, for one, believe there is a lack of the ability to specify an escape
sequence to be sent to the printer before and after each print job sent
across a certain lpd spool.

Either that, or a lack of knowledgeable people willing to answer questions
about how to do it.

I would think the author of the original post is specifically looking for
filters or "drivers" for more printers than are supported by the standard
ghostscript filters. The impression I get is that s/he is looking for a
"driver" to install like one would be installed on a Windows system.

I, for instance, need support for Ricoh Aficio 250 PCL networkable copier
machines. But lacking that, I would be willing to dump an escape sequence
of PCL codes to the printer prior to each print job, and a reset code at the
end of each print job, if I could just find out where/how to do it. My two
biggest issues are specifying the paper tray to use, and whether the job
should be printed portrait or landscape. Specifying font face and size
would also be nice options, but are not a necessity, which the paper tray
issue certainly IS.
