I can't say anything about the kernel source itself - I
haven't done any diffs - but the configuration process is
significantly different.  The compile failed, complaining
about some configuration error (which I can't remember), so
it may be that the source hasn't changed a bit.

But yes, I believe you'll have more luck with the
"pristine" sources ;)
