Status report
-------------
I am now about three thousands miles from home. The first day's attempt
to access the computers back home was a lesson in patience. It could
easily take ten minutes for successive packets to display on my screen.
As I feared, continuing as moderator would be impractical. Fortunately,
the process to find a replacement moderator has nearly completed.
The new moderator is...
..Pierce Brosnan.
No -- wait a minute -- that's the wrong script! Ah, here is the correct
script. The new moderator is...
..Mick Brown! (applause, applause)
It will take some time for the changeover to be processed by the powers
that be, so in the meantime, submissions directly to comp.os.os2.announce
will still be directed to my mailbox. If you want more immediate
attention, please mail your submissions directly to Mick at the following
address:
lfirrantello@bix.com
He is in the process of trying to get a separate mailbox established to
receive comp.os.os2.announce submissions, so please don't set this
address in concrete yet. Once that address is established, I expect
that he will inform the readership of the new procedures for submitting
items for posting.
Please give Mick some time to get his feet wet. Expect some changes as
he settles into the role of moderator.
During the past weekend, when I was busy preparing for my first extended
trip, it looks like a couple of dozen articles were submitted. I may
not be able to process them myself. I will attempt to forward them to
Mick, as the network traffic permits (probably outside business hours).
If anyone resubmits an item, please indicate this so that Mick doesn't
duplicate effort.
Lastly, I'd like to take this opportunity to publically thank all the
individuals who expressed an interest in taking over the role of
moderator (they know who they are). I haven't kept an exact count, but
this looks like my 2160th posting in this newsgroup over the two years
nine and a half months I served as moderator. Note that the current
submission rate is well over the two per day average that this number
represents, indicating a healthy growth rate, which I believe reflects
the health of OS/2, its applications, and its user groups. I'd also
like to thank those submitters who took the time to follow the
submission guidelines; you helped make my task easier.
