Hummingbird Exceed for OS/2, Release 3.0
The following products are now shipping:
Exceed for OS/2, Release 3.0
Exceed/Xpress for OS/2, Release 3.0
Exceed-XDK for OS/2, Release 3.0
ENHANCEMENTS - EXCEED FOR OS/2
Release 3.0 vs. Release 2.0
Exceed for OS/2 Release 3.0 now conforms to CID (Configuration, Installation, &
Distribution). This an IBM setup and installation standard.
Server Features:
Increased performance
X11Release 6 compliant including XTEST and SYNC extensions
Truecolor Support
Hummingbird Window Manager (hwm) - Motif like
Motif Window Manager (mwm) included within the X Development product
(Exceed-XDK for OS/2)
Virtual Desktop provides a virtual screen much larger than the actual
display, presenting a bird's eye view of all X and OS/2 applications, which
the user can move on and off the screen.
Hummingbird Remote Program Starter (hRPS) and RLOGIN have been added to
startup methods.
Character based non-X application startup is now supported
An icon library is included for custom icon installation for Xstart and
Xsession
Transport monitor provides visual feedback of transport activity
Programmable toolbar
Exceed/Xpress:
Now included with Exceed for OS/2, Release 3.0 and also shipped as a separate
product - Exceed/Xpress for OS/2, Release 3.0 (at this time it does not
include the enhanced features of modem compression and PPP & SLIP support
found in the newest Exceed/Xpress 5 products)
Printing Capabilities:
LPD - supports queued printing on a PC printer from a UNIX Host.
- supports printing of host raw data files (e.g. postscript files) via
Presentation Manager
LPR - allows OS/2 applications on a PC to transparently print to UNIX host
printers
Font Features:
X11R6 font support - font server, complete font transformation support and
scaleable fonts
Automatic font substitution
X Development Kit:
It is important to note that the X Development Kit is no longer included with
the main product - Exceed for OS/2, Release 3.0. Rather, it is distributed as
a separate product -Exceed-XDK for OS/2 - which also includes the server and
Exceed/Xpress.
