About two weeks ago I started various threads about Visual Age for BASIC
going away. Someone responded about a product called "True BASIC". It is
supported on many platforms INCLUDING OS/2 !
The following was taken from my reply from True BASIC:
>So, please give me an honest answer. I need to know are you actively
>supporting OS/2 and for how long.
We currently support OS/2 and have no plans to change that.
>Does TrueBASIC have all the functionality that BASIC, QBASIC and
>GWBASIC have ?
True BASIC pretty much has all the functionality of BASIC, QBASIC, and
GW-BASIC, but that functionality may look different. True BASIC follows the
ANSI standard for BASIC, which the other BASICs you mentioned do not, and so
the syntax is different in some cases, especially in the area of graphics. A
QuickBASIC to True BASIC converter is available. While this won't convert
100% of your program, it will certainly help, and will flag the sections
that can't be converted automatically.
(NOTE: There latest version has all the GUI stuff to be comparable with
MS-Visual BASIC and Visual Age for BASIC)
If you would like to get a sense of the syntax of True BASIC, you can point
your web browser to http://www.truebasic.com/ch18_ToC.html -- this page
contains a complete list of the True BASIC statements and built-in
functions, as well as links to other information from the True BASIC manual.
And, of course, if you have any further questions, please feel free to
email me with them.
