Phoenix OS/2 Society meeting: Can Java change the computing landscape?
IBM has swallowed the Java Kool-Aid. It's betting the company on the
success of Java, which promises cross-platform support, not to mention a
digital chicken in every pot. If Java succeeds, each of us will be able to
use the operating system we prefer -- without having to worry about the
applications that are supported.
But that's if it succeeds.
At the May meeting of the Phoenix OS/2 Society, we'll take a long hard look
at the promise of Java. Leading the discussion -- and talking about his
view of the computer industry and where it's headed -- will be Jeff
Duntemann, Editor In Chief at Visual Developer Magazine, and editorial head
honcho for The Coriolis Group. Jeff has been around since long before
computers were cool; he was editor of ZD's PC Tech Journal, ran Borland's
Turbo Technix, and knows every personality that ever stumbled through this
industry. He's entertaining, articulate, and knows what he's talking about.
And, as just one example of his good taste, he lives here in Scottsdale.
How could you miss this?
Jeff will also demo Java Studio, which he describes as "a very sharp new
thing from Sun that works cross-platform in some intriguing ways."
The Phoenix OS/2 Society's general meeting will be on Tuesday, May 12, at
7pm. It's held at the Mountain Preserve Reception Center, at 1431 East
Dunlap; you'll find a map at the user group's Web site, at
http://www.possi.org. If you can't make it to the meeting, take the
opportunity to request a sample copy of the Society's award-winning
magazine, _extended attributes_.
