We are pleased to announce that WebMirror 1.15 was released today.
This is only a maintenance release with few feature additions. The most
changes where made to the internal working of the program. We have
rewritten the cache algorithm and the http client/server routines to be
more fast and efficient.
Here are the relevant changes made in this version:
* The cache file structure was changed, thus the older cache files from
version 1.00 and 1.10 are not compatible. See the readme files before
installing this new version.
* Added concurrent retrieves of up to 4 objects at the same time. This
makes the retrieve of slow web site more efficient.
* Rewritten HTML parsing routines.
* Rewritten the Export function.
* The export function now works on FAT partitions under OS/2. All links
are converted to the FAT's 8.3 filename format and stored on a single
directory.
* Added the retrieve of images inside form objects.
* Fixed a compatibility problem with Netscape/2 and WebMirror when
Netscape/2 uses both an HTTP and a SOCKS proxy servers.
* Added our PPP.EXE, SLIP.EXE and SLATTACH.EXE to the distribution
package. If you have problems with the dialer under OS/2 try to use
these programs instead of the one you currently have installed.
As usual, this upgrade is free of charge for all registered customers.

What is WebMirror ?
WebMirror is a Presentation Manager (or Windows) utility that can be used
to retrieve entire sites, or part of them, from the World Wide Web. Sites
are stored on a compact database on the local hard drive and can be viewed
off-line using the internal HTTP proxy server.
WebMirror can be used by network administrators to provide access to
frequently-used web site to their corporate intranets or to provide secure
web browsing to selected web sites without the needs of expensive
firewalls, routers and internet connections. WebMirror can be used by CDROM
makers to dump entire web sites on CDROM without worrying about editing web
pages to reflect the local storage organization and limitations, the pages
are retrieved directly from the original web site and stored in a standard
8+3 database file. The database can then be exported to disk and WebMirror
can take the work of converting all the links for you. WebMirror is also
useful to individuals who don't want to spend money reading the page's
contents on-line, they can retrieve an entire site or even a portion of it
then disconnect and enjoy reading without worrying about the phone bill
going to the stars.
WebMirror runs under OS/2 Warp 3 and 4 with the Internet Access Kit
installed and running, Windows 95 and Windows NT Workstation or Server.
It's small memory footprint makes it very low on resource requests, so the
system you are currently using to run these operating systems is well
suitable to run WebMirror too. In addition, if your computers are connected
to a LAN you can browse the stored web pages from other workstations
running OS/2, Windows, MacOS and all flavors of Unix, provided you are
running a TCP/IP stack on these workstations too.
WebMirror is completely multithreaded, allowing the retrieve of up to 4
objects, either html pages or images, from the web server. This results in
a more efficient use of the available bandwidth and optimizes the retrieve
of slow web sites.
