---------------------------------------------------------------------
A few weeks ago, Stardock lowered the price on Object Desktop 1.5 from
$89.95 to $39.95 and the results were so satisfactory that Stardock is now
extending the sale to Object Desktop Professional.
For a limited time, Object Desktop Professional's price has been lowered
from $179 to $99.
Briefly, here is information on these two best selling OS/2 products.
--- Object Desktop for OS/2 ---
Object Desktop $39.95 for a limited time.
A desktop environment that integrates a large number of features into OS/2.
One reviewer described it as "a third party upgrade to OS/2". Specific
Features include:
* Control Center. A powerful utility that provides virtual desktops, system
resource monitoring, program launching, and a number of other features. This
utility alone is worth $39.95.
* Object Archives. Makes ZIP, ZOO, ARC, RAR, and other file formats behave
like OS/2 folders. Once Object Desktop is installed, these files appear as
standard OS/2 folders and can be manipulated like one. Like Control Center,
this feature alone is worth $39.95
* Tab LaunchPad. One of the most popular features, it allows people to
organize their programs by category. It replaces the standard OS/2
LaunchPad.
* Object Package. Allows users to backup their desktop or parts of it to a
single file that can be transferred to other machines or be used as a
desktop backup. A must have when users switch OS versions or reinstall
OS/2.
* Keyboard LaunchPad. Users can now assign programs to be launched via a
set of hot keys. For instance, assign Ctrl-Alt-Space to launch your OS/2
prompt, assign Ctrl-Alt-N to launch Netscape.
* A ton of other enhancements including Enhanced folders which makes your
OS/2 folders more powerful and nicer to look at, enhanced look that improves
the look and feel of OS/2, a new task list that makes keeping track of your
programs easier, and a lot more.
The best part is that the features of Object Desktop can be installed
individually. Users pick and choose which features they want and they
integrate so seamlessly with OS/2 that they behave as if they were part of
the OS. In fact, Object Desktop contains no .EXE, they're all DLL's that
use IBM's SOM technology to become part of the OS.
Recommendations include:
"Every OS/2 user should have Object Desktop or Object Desktop Professional"
-InfoWorld
"Object Desktop is simply splendid"
-Computer Shoppper
"Object Desktop is a must have utility"
-PC Magazine
Winner: Utility of the year 1997
-OS/2 Inside
Winner: Best WPS Enhancement
-OS/2 e-Zine
Object Desktop runs on OS/2 2.11 all the way up and beyond OS/2 Warp 4 FP6.

Now for Object Desktop Professional...
-- Object Desktop Professional --
Normally $179, on sale for a limited time for $99!!
Object Desktop Professional comes with everything that Object Desktop has
PLUS...
* Object Viewing. Integrates filters into the base OS allowing you to right
click on most files and view them. Someone gives you an Office 95 file?
Object Viewers can not just read them but read them with the proper
formatting, graphics, OLE embedding, etc. All of this is automatic. It
hyperscans the document and determines what type of file it is. And Object
Viewers includes hundreds of viewers. When you drag and drop a file to the
printer, odds are it will no longer ask for "what type of file is this?
Plain text or Printer specific". With Object Viewers, it will determine
what type of file it is and print it correctly without you having to
intervene. Object Viewers can even scan your hard disk and assign icons to
files based on what type of file they are even when they are not associated
with a program. Have a file called "Bills98.xls" but don't have Excel?
Object Viewers will assign a spread sheet icon to it automatically.
The closest thing to Object Viewers on any other OS is QuickView plus
(Win32) which can't do half the things Object Viewers can do and it costs
$70 all by itself.
* Object Security. Now you can protect your desktop by assigning passwords
to folders and keeping others from being able to move your icons around.
* Object Backup. A full blown backup package designed to allow
professionals to backup files to their network server. It also supports the
new ATAPI/IDE tape drives (such as the Seagate 8 gig drives).
* Object Scheduler. Works like the StartUp folder except you assign dates
and times for the programs to be launched.
* Object Advisors. Integrates on-line help into the Internet (patent
pending).
* Object Navigator Professional. A powerful file manager that is the only
OS/2 file manager that can see long file name on FAT partitions, shadows,
and migrated objects. It is completely integrated into OS/2's workplace
shell and it has a view pane so that when you click on a file that Object
Viewers recognizes, it is quickly displayed in the view pane.
* Object Inspector. Expert users can clean out their class table in a safe
and effective way. It also allows users to re-create objects on their
desktop and look closely at the settings of any OS/2 object. It is the
perfect tool for users who do a lot of REXX programming or those who want to
optimize their system performance.
* And more. A number of other minor enhancements are also included with
Object Desktop Professional.
At $99, there is probably no product on any OS that provides so many useful
features to users for the price as Object Desktop Professional. It's not
just the best OS/2 utility enhancement, it is the best on any platform. No
OS/2 user should be without it. Even if you only use half the features,
Object Desktop Professional is a must have product.
Winner of the 1997 Reader's Choice Award for OS/2 enhancers from OS/2
e-Zine.
