 ## This Month's CAOS... #############################################
 #######################################################################

  Agenda: January 8, 1998

Happy New Year to everyone! Have you resolved to learn more about your OS/2
system this year? Or maybe to teach a little about what you have learned?
Then 1998 is your year to get more involved in CAOS/2. If you've got
something to contribute, or a topic you'd like to see covered in one of our
meetings, then come on out on January 8th and let us know!

This month we're going to review two remote access/ remote control products,
learn about impending Year 2000 issues, and take a quick look at yet another
desktop DooDad. Here's the lineup:

  o Remote Services Management

Remote Services Management provides remote control to Windows 32-bit
     (NT & 95), Windows 3.1x, DOS and all OS/2 versions (16 and 32-bit),
     from Windows 32-bit (NT & 95) and OS/2. R.S.M. creates a very secure
environment for communications (logon, passwords, authorization
restriction, etc.). Other functions included are: chat mode, screen
blanking, journal audit logging on all modules, clipboard content
transfers, marker mode, screen stretching (down, up), contextual help
bubbles, speed caching optimization and more.

o Distributed Console Access Facility (DCAF)

DCAF is IBM's own entry into the remote control software market. It
provides features and options similar to RSM. Doug Dancek will be
giving us a tour of DCAF, and we will be making comparisons with RSM.

  o Year 2000

Gerry Danen, an IT specialist with Northlands will be speaking to us
about a number of issues regarding preparing computing systems for the
Year 2000. Is your system year 2000 safe? Find out how you can check
your system and software, and what you need to do if it's not.

  o This month's DooDad - DragText

DragText's Basic (free) features add drag and drop text to windows. Its
Extended (shareware) features transform text into an object you can
exchange between windows, files, the clipboard, and other objects
     - without ever thinking about a file name.
