After a flurry of emails, the NY Metro area prepares
to toss its hat in the ring.

New York City is a major hub for every national and international airline
with discounted airfare packages easily available world wide. NY is the
center of the Washington to Boston corridor and is conveniently located to
Philadelphia and many other US cities by bus, car and train and is the only
Metro Area to span 3 states. NY has the greatest mass transportation system;
is home to the UN; gateway to the new world and a place were everything can
be had (including visitors). It is a multilingual city that never sleeps and
that it has some of the best entertainment, restaurants, museums and
sightseeing in the modern world, which can only increase our advantage in
being an ideal spot to host Warpstock '98.
We believe that we could host the next Warpstock on or about the weekend of
Oct 18, 1998. October is an optimal time to visit NY and the NE US in
general (not hot, not humid, not yet cold, fall colors, etc.) We believe
that NY is the ideal location and should host the next Warpstock.
We think that Warpstock '98 can have 2-3x the attendance of LA. IBM NY has
said that it is interested in helping out and could supply facilities at
it's building at 57th & Madison consisting of meeting rooms and public
spaces.
We are awaiting quotes for the use of an off-site ballroom/theater for
keynote addresses that would be held in the mornings or late
afternoon/evenings to enable *everyone* to attend.
We are also looking into having the whole event in an hotel but there may
not be so many convenient smaller rooms to cater to as many special
interests and the registration price will go up.
We think that it is possible to interest more people by starting Midweek and
go through the weekend (with the more fun/social stuff on the weekend) to
broaden the appeal to more SOHO and Best Team types and have the more
technical sessions earlier in the schedule. This is the type of schedule we
think is possible:
The possibility of the event being a 4 day event, as follows
Thurs Afternoon - Earlybird sessions
Thurs Evening - Social event
Fri Morning - Site seeing tours (this is NY after all)
Fri Afternoon - Breakout sessions
Fri Evening - Social event
Sat Morning - Main tent/keynotes and sessions with overwhelming interest
Sat Afternoon - Exhibits and breakout sessions
Sun Morning - Exhibits and breakout sessions
We are investigating the possibilities in having group entertainments such
as a dinner cruise around Manhattan. There won't be any closing time issues
with the bars, restaurants, clubs or public transportation as NY has it all,
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

@@@ We are looking for additional people who want to help out. @@@
1. People in the Metro NY area (NJ, NY, Conn) and Philly who want to make
this a truly great event by giving their time to helping put this thing
together. We need lots of job skills, and people skills.
2. Vendors with products to sell/demonstrate who would be interested in
having an opportunity to mount the podium and talk and demonstrate their
products.
3. Developers with topics to talk about and teach the rest of us.
------>>>>> But right now, we need more people. <<<<<---------
If you have an interest, a skill, and wish to offer a helping hand we have
setup a special email address:
>> warpstockny98@ibm.net <<
We also encourage you to use the Warpstock mailing list to publicly voice
your opinion regarding topics of interest and what you would want to see at
the next Warpstock. Visit the Warpstock pages at WWW.WARPSTOCK.ORG and add
your name to the listserver.
