PRESS RELEASE: Lotus First to Deliver New Class of Software for the Internet,
                Intranets, Extranets and Network Computing

Industry Leaders Join Forces to Support Lotus' Java-based eSuite; eSuite
Solutions to Lower Total Cost of Ownership, Enhance Productivity and Speed
Deployment of I-net Applications

NEW YORK, Nov. 3, 1997 -- Lotus Development Corp. today detailed a strategy
for a new class of products built specifically for the network computing
environment and designed to reduce the cost of computing while increasing
productivity and speeding deployment of Internet, intranet and extranet
(I-net) applications. The company's launch of its new eSuite software
received broad-based support from many of the world's most prominent
technology firms including Sun Microsystems, Oracle, America Online (AOL),
Intel, Netscape, Novell and Lotus' parent company, IBM.

"Intranets, extranets and Java are now clearly emerging as the converged
medium for e-Business. With Lotus eSuite we will ship a new generation of
software built specifically to leverage this impressive opportunity," said
Jeff Papows, Lotus' president. "Lotus eSuite software will help businesses
reduce the costs of owning and upgrading software, and will deliver to
workers' desktops applications that help them get their work done without
requiring them to be computer experts."

Today's IT Challenges and Lotus eSuite Solutions

IT managers today face the challenge of reducing overall computing costs
while providing more people within their organizations with computing
resources and access to vital back-end data and applications.

With its eSuite family of products, Lotus is introducing a new class of
business productivity solutions that will deliver efficient, computing
resources to a broad base of users and significantly reduce the cost of
software ownership. Formerly code-named Kona, Lotus' Java-based eSuite
product line comprises the eSuite WorkPlace and eSuite DevPack. The eSuite
WorkPlace is an easy-to-navigate desktop that offers users quick access to
e-mail, Web browsing, terminal emulation and a set of compact, business
productivity applets. The eSuite DevPack gives I-net developers the tools
they need to rapidly create interactive I-net solutions that can be deployed
across any platform supporting Java.

Industry Leaders Unite to Deliver eSuite to Customers

With the launch of eSuite, Lotus is offering customers the first complete
software solution that leverages the benefits of Java and network computing
devices. At the launch, an unprecedented grouping of CEOs, including Scott
McNealy of Sun Microsystems, Larry Ellison of Oracle Corp., Bob Pittman of
AOL, Jim Barksdale of Netscape Communications Corporation and Eric Schmidt of
Novell, announced the following initiatives:

IBM
* IBM will ship the eSuite WorkPlace with its entire Network Station Series
  1000 product line.

Sun Microsystems
* Sun has committed to a joint development effort with Lotus to deliver the
eSuite WorkPlace for the Sun JavaStation.

Oracle

Lotus eSuite applications with its NCI platform. Oracle will ship the
eSuite applets with its own InterOffice product.

AOL
* AOL will make the eSuite calendar and mail applets available to millions of
members worldwide and plans, with Lotus, to cooperate on delivering the
  eSuite WorkPlace to AOL members.

Intel
* Lotus and Intel are working together to ensure that eSuite runs optimally
  on Intel-based PC platforms.

Netscape
* Netscape will offer Internet users the opportunity to download eSuite
applets through its Netscape NetCenter online service.
