---------------------------------------------------------------------
A CASE tool with a price tag of less than $1500 per seat is now available for
the OS/2 community and others. The name is CASETALK and it is produced by The
Danish Object Company.
It has build in support for DB2/2 and other database systems as well (Dbase,
Oracle and many more). One of the very pleasant features are the ability to do
reverse engineering on DB2/2 DB2/400 (from an existing database to a design
model).
The most exiting thing about CASETALK is the ability to create JAVA JDBC
classes and basic JAVA applications for the database you are working with.
This means you don't need to buy the (expensive) enterprise version of
VisualAge for Java, just buy the VisualAge for Java Professional version, add
on CASETALK and go on making JAVA apps connecting to DB2 (or one of the other
supported databases). Do this without fiddling around with the JDBC API. You
even get the initial screen layouts, allowing you to test your database with
data entry forms, query forms and report layouts.
A demo will be made available on http://www.danishobject.dk. The demo will be
limited to contain only 10 objects and no reverse engineering, but all other
features will be available also the JAVA class builder.
I think all OS/2 programmers should try this one out, as it is a very good
CASE tool. Remember even if one is using Dbase CASETALK can be of good use to
you. Somebody might try to use CASETALK with Xbase, there might be some
possibilities in that also.
