---------------------------------------------------------------------
Once in awhile we adjust our schedule to take advantage of a speaker's being
in the Bay Area. In this case we're moving our November general meeting from
the fourth Monday to the first. We apologize for the short notice, but when
these opportunities arise, we grab them.
Monday, November 3rd, 1997, 7:30-9:30 P.M. (Q&A forum at 7)
VisualAge for C++ V4.0; VisualAge for Java
Karen McGregor, IBM Toronto Lab
Stanford Linear Accelerator Center Auditorium
2575 Sand Hill Road, Menlo Park, CA
$3 charge for non-members
Karen McGregor (mcgregor@ca.ibm.com) is a member of the Visual Age for
C++/Visual Age for Java Technical Enablement Consulting Team (TecTeam) in the
IBM Toronto Lab. The TecTeam is a core staff of VAC++ and VAJava experts who
offer advanced technical consulting and mentoring to VAC++ and VAJava
customers. Karen has had extensive consulting experience and application
development experience across many different platforms.
Karen will present the key concepts for the new VisualAge for C++ V4.0
product, including product demonstrations of the internal beta product. VAC++
4.0 extends the existing VAC++ features (rapid application development, visual
construction from parts, cross-platform support) with support for incremental
C++ compilation, a new Integrated Development Environment, and enhanced
platform portability.
Karen will conclude with a quick tour through the VAJava for OS/2 environment,
demonstrating the similarity of IDE interface between VAJava and VAC++ 4.0,
and highlighting similarities between the VisualAge family of products --
across platforms and languages.
Here is a special disclaimer, since we know some of you are sensitive about
the issue of companies developing the Windows versions of their products
before the OS/2 versions: Karen will be showing a Windows NT pre-release
version of VisualAge for C++. We had a choice whether to see VisualAge C++
V4.0 with all of its new features now, running under NT, or wait several
months to see a very, very similar product running under OS/2. We thought you
would want to see the new features sooner rather than later.
