Hi folks. I thought I'd quickly share my terse notes from Monday's OS/2 Bay
Area User Group meeting with IBM and Netscape, on Netscape Communicator
version 4 for OS/2.
The quotes are from IBM's Lanness Robinson, Manager Netscape OS/2 Development,
or technical team lead Mike Kaply.
It looks just like the Windows version.
The Java in it is Netscape Java 1.02+. It Does not use IBM's Java that comes
with OS/2.
Win16 plugin support is greatly enhanced: runs more, and more reliably.
In controlled alpha, primarily IBM internal, worldwide, about 30 venues.
Beta upcoming, no exact date.
Product is functionally complete, and "good enough to be in full beta."
Time of general availability depends on beta.
Move to Java 1.1 may be announced at something like a Comdex.
Open or closed beta? "both."
Will come from IBM web page.
pricing? "in the range of marketers."
size? "smaller than windows."
Will OS/2 version stay up with windows version? "yes"
Professional edition? "it may"
