[A:] Ver. 1.2 of the hp8xx & hp690 drivers released
Finally version 1.2 of the hp8xx driver for the ghostscript
printing system is ready to be released.
This version features:
calibrated color-transfer function for c-m-y-k
complete grey-component-replacement (saves a lot of ink)
better handling of dark colors
performance improvements
a couple of bug fixes
The driver is distributed as precompiled ghostscript executable. In order to
install these executables, you need to have ghostscript ver 5.03 on your
computer! For those new to GS, detailed installation instructions are
provided. For those who don't know what GS is: GS is a complete postscript
based printing subsystem, driving nearly any non-postscript printer (including
the Epsons..). It offers a better printing quality while using less resources
than the IBM drivers. GS can be used completely invisible to the user.
Furthermore it provides a the facility to produce PDF-output. The drawback is
the non-automatic installation.
The following printers are known to work with the driver:
all hp8xx, except the hp820
the hp690, but without CRet.
The driver runs at a fixed resolution (600x600 bw & 300x300 c)
Current misfeatures:
Dark colors are too pale
