File Hound for OS/2, 0.2b Beta is now available. For those of you who have not
heard of it, File Hound is a document indexing and retrieval system capable of
rapidly searching hundreds or thousands of documents using various search
criteria. Unlike the "Seek and Scan" and "Find" applets included with the
operating system, File Hound builds an index of significant terms in documents,
allowing it to scan thousands of documents within a couple seconds.
This version includes several fixes, as well as some features requested by
users. These include:
- The last query may be retrieved and refined, rather than reconstructing it
from scratch.
- Added indicators which show that a search query or index request is in
progress.
- Updated filters: DeScribe, Windows Write 3.0-3.1, MicroSoft Word 1.0-8.0,
and WordPerfect 5.0-8.0.
Other document types already supported are Ami Pro, HTML, and ASCII text.
Even if your word processor is not included in this list, File Hound should
be able to extract text if it is stored as ASCII. For instance, ClearLook
does this, while Lotus WordPro is binary and therefore not readable.
Bugs fixed:
- ASCII text displayed CRLF as two breaks instead of one.
- fixed encryption bug which broke authentication
- minor revisions to the Help
- Search group list would not always display correctly
- Next Match / Next File button behaved incorrectly in some cases
- HTML filter incorrectly parsed line breaks
- Keyboard accelerators did not work when Caps Lock was on
- resource lock bug while updating periodic indexer
- changing periodic indexer between daily and interval would
not restart thread
- Results View scrolled incorrectly to first match in document
