(1) Please submit all posts via email to:
os2_ann_req@bix.com
I am making this request because too many servers have COOA misconfigured and
there are problems with the moderator email addresses. Plus, with
UUNET/Alterdial under UDP, contact with UUNET is going to be dicey for a
while :-(
If you do post to your news server, AND IT APPEARS IMMEDIATELY in
comp.os.os2.announce, your server is very likely misconfigured and your post
is not approved. (Unapproved posts may appear on a few servers, but they do
not propagate well... so most readers will not see them.) If this occurs,
please forward a copy to the address above including all headers if possible.
I have received confirmation that the UUNET mail servers and the
moderators.uu.net addresses are not always working properly. This can result
in bounced posts that never appear anywhere.
(2) I am sorry for recent delays in posts. I expect to return to every other
day posting, or more often if I can get some posting software working.
(3) UUNET controls the moderator forwarding aliases. UUNET is now under a
USENET Death Penalty for failure to deal effectively with USENET SPAM from its
customers. (UDP is when the SPAM cancelers and others send SPAM cancels for
all posts from a given ISP or other entity.)
Off the top of my head, I believe UUNET SPAMs went from something like 20,000
daily to 200,000 daily this month. So between the SPAM and the cancels chasing
it many news servers have been flakey all of July. You can obtain exact
figures from news.admin.net-abuse.usenet and some commentary about the UDP
there and in the article refernced below.

>"A loose coalition of system administrators on Friday began issuing a
>"Usenet Death Penalty" against UUNET, a major Internet service
>provider, for its alleged failure to curb spam emanating from its
>dialup accounts.
>The penalty took effect 5 p.m. (PDT) Friday, and according to a
>release from the coalition, "all traffic coming from these sources is
>to be canceled until further notice."
