Aesop's Volume 1 of the Workhorse Library is now shipping. Forty pieces of
original artwork accompany forty fables on a CDROM. The single CDROM has
program versions for Windows 3.11, Windows 95 and OS/2. The OS/2 version is a
native OS/2 program. QVision now accepts American Express and Discover as
well as VISA and MasterCard.

Workhorse Library Series

Q: When is a book more than a book?
A: When it is a Workhorse Library Computer Book on CDROM from QVision.

A Workhorse Library Book is a combination of text, spoken words and original
artwork. Titles in the Workhorse Library Series will include both classical
and original works. There will be books suitable for children, teenagers, and
adults as well as books suitable for children of all ages such as "Alice's
Adventures in Wonderland".

The first Workhorse Library Book to be released is "Aesop's Fables - Volume
1". A collection of 40 Aesop's Fables each with an original piece of artwork,
hand drawn and scanned into the computer in full color. QVision has collected
over 350 unique Aesop's Fables and plans to publish at least two more volumes
in 1997 of these fables.

A Workhorse Library Book lets you read the text and also will read the text to
you or your child. A simple easy to use interface, tested on children as young
as 4 years old, lets you concentrate on the story not the computer interface.
Your young child can sit down and have an Aesop Fable read to her or him
without your assistance.

Research has indicated that reading out loud to a child is one of the best
aids to the child's future educational process. Now you can have your

computer read to your child and to you too!

Children of all ages - such as an 80 year old grandmother - can enjoy Aesop;
these timeless stories are teaching-fables from the classical era of Greece.
Everyone remembers the story of the "Tortoise and the Hare" from their youth.

However the Workhorse Library Series was not designed to be just a story book
reader. This series was designed along side QVision's Workhorse Learning
Series of educational programs. The Workhorse Learning Series is designed to
be educational not "edutainment". Children love to learn and our test
response to educational programs has been an eye opener.

"Aesop's Fables - Volume 1" is Available now for OS/2, Windows 3.11 and
  Windows 95.
"Aesop's Fables - Volume 2" will ship for July 1997.
"Aesop's Fables - Volume 3" will ship for August 1997.
"Alice's Adventure in Wonderland" is scheduled for October 1997.
"Through the Looking Glass" is scheduled for October 1997.
The OZ series will be scheduled for 1998.

Workhorse Library as an Educational Tool
----------------------------------------
A Workhorse Library Book produces educational benefits on different levels
depending on the child. A young child 2-3 years old enjoys it mainly as a
"picture book". A little older child 4-5 years old enjoys it as a story and a
"seeing the pictures move in my mind" book, thus giving them a chance to build
an imagination and to start an understanding of more vocabulary. A 5-7 year
old beginning reader actively increases his vocabulary and sight words. A
young reader 6-7 years old gets some reinforcement for his work in reading by
being able to follow along in a "different book" from his school book. And a
reader 8-9 to 10-11 years old can follow along completely and pick up the more
difficult words. All the while, the children are learning and practicing basic
computer skills too.

Older readers will enjoy classic literature such as Robert Louis Stevenson.

Workhorse Library User Interface
--------------------------------
The interface to the Workhorse Library consist of three parts. The first is
the "Bookshelf" or index of books. Each book when installed from the CDROM
places an entry in the index of books. The reader selects the book he or she
wished from the index. If the proper CDROM for the selected book is not in
the CDROM drive, the reader is prompted to insert it.

The second part is the Table of Contents for a book. In a collection of
fables or short stories, the reader can jump to the one they wish to read. Or
they can go to a bookmark they have set for this book to continue reading
where they previously left off.

The third part is the actual page of the book: these can be text or pictures.

The reader (or the reader and parent) can set options on how they wish to use
the Workhorse Book. One of these options allows the reader to have the
computer read the page when the reader asks it to. Another starts the
computer reading a page as soon as the reader turns to a new page.

The reader can instruct the computer to read a single page and then wait for
the reader to turn the page. Or he can ask the computer to turn the pages
and read until the end of the chapter.

Pictures can be displayed at full color (16 million colors) to get the full
effect of the artwork or at 256 colors for speed. For readers with 8-bit
sound cards, there is an option to play 8-bit sounds. However, QVision
recommends the 16-bit sounds for clarity and background noise.

Volume levels can be adjusted just by hitting a number key on your key board.

All mouse interface actions are mapped to the key board so the reader can use
either the mouse or the keyboard to control the Workhorse Library.
