LOTUS' DOMINO WEB SERVER SOLUTION AVAILABLE FOR OS/2 WARP
Austin, Texas, May 7, 1997 -- IBM and Lotus Development Corp. today announced
that Domino.Action and Domino.Merchant, Lotus' Domino web server-based
business solution frameworks for site creation and Internet commerce, will now
be available to OS/2 Warp customers. Domino.Action, which is bundled with the
server, provides a solution for designing, creating and maintaining an
electronic presence, either on the public Internet, or on a private intranet.
Domino.Merchant is designed for easy customization and provides corporate
developers and Lotus Business Partners with an inexpensive cost-effective
platform for building industry-specific commerce applications.
"The availability of Domino.Action and Domino.Merchant for OS/2 will enable
many of IBM and Lotus's largest and most sophisticated customers to take
advantage of Domino's Web collaboration functionality very quickly and easily,"
said Keith McCall, director, Lotus Domino.Applications. "Once these customers

to extend those sites with the commerce capabilities of Domino.Merchant for
OS/2. We're certain that this integrated package will be very appealing for
organizations that want manageable, cost-efficient solutions for key Web-based
business processes and activities."
"The announcement of Domino.Action and Domino.Merchant for OS/2 Warp continues
on the successful IBM and Lotus tradition of delivering powerful business
solutions to our customers," said Michael Lawrie, general manager, IBM Personal
Software Products division. "With a large installed base of OS/2 servers
worldwide, Lotus is extending its reach to a large and diverse customer base.
OS/2 Warp, together with Domino, is a compelling solution for creating a
presence on the Web and conducting e-business."
Powerful Tools for On-line Store Building and Management
--------------------------------------------------------
Domino.Action and Domino.Merchant are based on Lotus Domino, the
critically-acclaimed groupware and e-mail server for the Internet. They are
part of the Domino.Applications family of products that allow organizations to
create intranets and Internet sites and extend the functionality of those sites
with practical, easy-to-use business solutions.
Domino.Action provides the solution for designing, creating and maintaining an
electronic presence, either on the public Internet or on a private intranet.
Domino.Action is designed to get a companies started in the standards-based
world of the Web as quickly and easily as possible -- and to help companies
grow their site in an orderly and manageable fashion.
Domino.Action includes the site creator application for selecting and
configuring the key elements of your Web site or intranet, and templates for
creating applications such as: the homepage; an about-the-company section; a
press release library; job postings; customer feedback; policies and procedures
manuals; discussions, and visitor registration.
Domino.Merchant provides customers with the ability to perform online sales and
marketing activities ranging from registering site visitors and delivering
information on demand, to maintaining a catalogue, and accepting orders. In
addition, it adds value to sites created with other Web site tools by providing
an easy, template-based commerce module that is highly customizable through
Domino's application development capabilities. Domino.Merchant generates
statistics to track customer interest in particular product lines and logs the
collected data in Domino or relational databases for analysis.
Domino.Merchant leverages Domino's security features at many different levels
to protect sensitive information. User access is controlled through Domino's
security model. The Domino.Merchant administrator, through the user directory,
can create and assign users to roles which define their access to the Domino
applications. This prevents unauthorized users from editing content on a
Domino.Merchant Web site.
The trial version of Domino.Merchant and Domino.Action for OS/2 will be
available within the next two weeks for download on the Domino.Applications Web
site at http://www.net.lotus.com.
