As many of you know, there have been discussions on the newsgroups about
producing a quality event for OS/2 users that would bring them together with a
sense of community and purpose. I initiated a mailing list to discuss how
this could happen. I also prepared a web page at
www.basin.com/os2/warpstock.html which describes the event and how to join the
list.
As a part of this, I agreed to become the chair of the event because I want to
see Warpstock occur and be a success and be a rallying point for all OS/2
users!! I would therefore like to announce the members of our planning group
called the Warpstock Steering Committee. This is an exciting time for all of
us; Warpstock is becoming a reality!
The persons on the Warpstock Steering Committee are:
Mark Abramowitz, marka@datadepot.com
Paul Hethmon, phethmon@hethmon.com
Michael Perry, mperry@basin.com
Rollin White, rwhite@kaiwan.com
Felix Cruz, fcruz@softouch.com
Esther Schindler, esther@primenet.com
Now on to the news at hand. The event has been planned to occur in Los
Angeles, California in the latter part of October this year. We chose Los
Angeles for a number of reasons. It forms a great conference and social
destination and is a primary destination from airports across the nation. We
also felt that the event could benefit from the involvement and sponsorship of
the Southern California OS/2 Users Group.
Our philosophical premise is that Warpstock is a community event which will be
a focal point for OS/2 user and vendor interaction, education, communication,
and of course, a good time. We are diverse, but linked through our operating
system, which we have chosen because of its strength, reliability, power, and
flexibility.
The biggest thing that Warpstock now needs is volunteers. Each of us needs to
find two others to help with the event!! There are several areas we need help
in for this event:
1) Communications - virtual event hosting and planning
2) HTML editing/authoring - we need a better page to take information
from forms based data entry
3) Volunteers to spread the word about Warpstock
4) Other areas not yet formulated. Things change and evolve!!
5) Get other volunteers to join the Warpstock mailing list!! This is our
primary voice in planning the event and for all of use to share ideas and
concepts about Warpstock!!
I urge you to join the Warpstock mailing list and add your voice. With
involvement and cooperation we can make Warpstock a success!!
