Although some of you may not have received any e-mail recently about the
Promote OS/2 IRC sessions, don't think that they have gone away! We just
needed some time to organize the ideas that many of you have provided in the
past few months. And here are the results!
The name of the non-profit organization we decided on creating is "VOICE",
Virtual OS/2 International Consumer Education, with the express purpose of:
1. Serve as a "virtual", on-line user group for OS/2 users, without a local
user group, and to any other OS/2 users interested in VOICE.
2. Promote OS/2 to the SOHO consumer and to general computer users.
3. Provide an effective communication channel between members, user groups,
ISV's, and IBM.
4. To help OS/2 User Groups organize and promote their activities.
In the last few weeks, there has been a great deal of activity within the
organization. An Executive Board has been elected by popular vote and
consists of:

We will soon be incorporated as a non-profit organization and are in the
process of contacting IBM to be officially listed as a user group. We have
our own domain, os2voice.org, that will be operational in the next week or so.
We recently announced a web page contest for which voting has begun, with the
winner receiving free membership to VOICE and other great prizes (see below
for details!). Our web page, therefore, should be operational within a few
weeks at www.os2voice.org with translations to Dutch, French, Portuguese, and
other languages.
Once our server and web page are operational, our mailing lists will be
activated as well and you will be able to join by sending e-mail to
listserv@os2voice.org. We also expect to work on several exciting OS/2
promotion campaigns, such as the Internet Link Exchange & BannerSwap Internet
advertising and OS/2 Promotion Kits. Your ideas and suggestions are most
welcome for other projects!

VOICE Weekly Meeting Update - April 30, 1997
Web Page Contest Voting Begins!!!

The entries in the web page contest for VOICE were introduced at the meeting
and voting has begun. You can take a look at all of the entries by using the
web addresses listed below; to vote for them, send e-mail to
"ellingtg@mail.cvn.net" with "VOICE Web Page Contest" in the Subject field.
Please list the ones you like best and please provide reasons why you chose
the page you did. Note that since entry #4 was turned in after the deadline,
it cannot officially win the contest & the grand prize; however, you may still
vote for it. The deadline for voting is May 9, 1997, so be sure to get your
votes in!

Need a Lawyer!!

VOICE is still in search of a lawyer or legal assistant willing to donate some
of their time to the organization. Particularly, we need someone to handle
the incorporation of VOICE as a non-profit organization. So if you are
lawyer, or know one who'd be willing to help, please let us know! We may even
be able to provide you with free software! :)
Server almost up!

VOICE has been registered with a Domain Name Server (DNS) and been assigned a
IP address. Therefore, the server will be up and running very soon now! Look
out for more details!
Meeting Times
------------
As always, IRC meeting times for VOICE are every Wednesday at
warpedworld.dyndns.com (among other servers) at 8 p.m. EST in channel #VOICE.
In addition, a meeting time has been set up on the second Saturday at noon (12
p.m. EST) for those of you who can't make it to the Wednesday meetings. For
