OS/2FEST-DC #2 is on! (New info!)
Meet those people you only knew as an e-mail address!
OS/2FEST-DC is a meeting of OS/2 enthusiasts and users at irregular intervals
around the DC area. We meet at computer stores that support OS/2 and get
acquainted, then head off to a local eatery to make friends over food. All
OS/2 supporters are welcome!
Date: 26 April 1997
Location: Annapolis, MD
Plan of attack: Meet at Kiyo's between 3:30 and 5pm, peruse the software racks
(purchasing may smooth the way for our return at some future date...<G>) and
then head off to a restaurant to eat, drink, and be merry.
Directions:
From US 50, take Exit 24, Rowe, south toward Annapolis.
Turn left at the 2nd light which is Taylor.
Proceed 2 blocks, pass Grauls Grocery Store and the 7-11 to the 'T'
which is Annapolis St.
(Warning, this is a pretty bad corner as those turning left from
Annapolis onto Taylor in front of you don't have a stop sign)
Turn Left onto Annapolis St. and turn left into the first driveway.
There is a small green wood sign out front that says "Kiyo Designs."
Park in the back.
Down the stairs to the Kiyo Software store - preferably the front
stairs, but we might have the back door open.
The restaurant we'll be adjourning to is called "The Ground Round" and is
located at Giant's Festival Plaza, on the corner of Riva Road and Forest
Drive. Just take Exit 23 (Parole) off of US 50 and head towards Annapolis
(not Annapolis Mall) on West Street. Riva Road is the first intersection, turn
right and go about two blocks to Forest Road. Lots of brick. Prices are (in my
underpaid opinion) very reasonable.
Cory Hamasaki has forwarded the following to me:
"I'll have some kind of give-away, drawing for your gang. I've also invited a
hardware vendor to stop by, maybe we can turn this into a swap meet if the
weather is nice.
Another thing I can do is run a sale but you'd have to hype it up.
(note: I can teach Bill Gates how to hype - Jeff)
If anyone is interested in mainframes, I can bring in my MVS mainframe and run
MVS, TSO etc. for them but I need to know a few days in advance that someone
is interested.
I can also demo the V 0.60 REDWOOD, again, you pretty much have to be a
mainframe person looking at Y2K to want to see it. "
Redwood is an OS/2 app that examines MVS datasets, breaks them down into
fields, categorizes the fields by content type, and determines Y2K compliance.
It also can generate code to support that dataset. Cory showed me the 0.50
beta while I was there last week and it looked pretty good to me.
Hope to see you there!
